Privacy policy
Last updated: 7 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information Edition Education collects, why, and what your rights are. It is written to be readable by students as well as by parents and teachers. Right now Edition is simple: we give you a free workbook when you join our email list. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell it.
1. Who we are
Edition Education (‘we’, ‘us’, ‘Edition’) is an independent educational publisher based in the United Arab Emirates, and we are the data controller for the personal information described here. You can contact us about anything in this policy at hello@edition.education. Our full legal and registration details are available on request.
2. The short version
- If you download our free workbook, we collect your first name, email address and whether you are a student, teacher, parent or tutor, so we can send you the workbook and occasional updates.
- You can unsubscribe at any time, and we will delete you from the list.
- We do not sell your information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other websites.
- We measure how the website is used, but we do this without cookies and without identifying you.
- If you leave feedback on a workbook, it is anonymous: a star rating, an optional comment, and whether you are a student, teacher, tutor or parent. We ask you not to include your name.
- We do not have accounts or take payments yet. When we add them, we will update this policy first.
3. The law that protects you
Edition is based in the United Arab Emirates, so we handle your information under the UAE’s Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021). If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, your information is also protected by UK or EU data-protection law (the GDPR), and this policy is written to meet those standards too. Whichever applies to you, the rights in section 7 are available to you.
4. What we collect, why, and our lawful basis
Joining the email list
When you sign up for the free workbook, we collect your first name, your email address and your role (whether you are a student, teacher, parent or tutor). We use these to send you the workbook, to send occasional updates about Edition, and to understand who our readers are so we can make what we send more relevant. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give by signing up and can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. We use MailerLite to manage our email list, and we keep a record of your consent.
Keeping the site secure
To protect the site and the sign-up form from bots and abuse, we use Cloudflare, including its Turnstile check. This processes limited technical information such as your IP address and basic device and browser signals. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. See Cloudflare’s Turnstile Privacy Policy.
Measuring how the site is used
So we can see what is working and improve the site, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is privacy-first and uses no cookies: it does not store anything on your device, does not track you across other websites, and does not build a profile of you. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site, and we only look at the information in grouped form.
Giving feedback on a workbook
Each workbook has a QR code and a link to a short feedback page. If you use it, we collect your star rating and, if you choose to add them, a short comment and whether you are a student, teacher, tutor or parent. We ask you not to include your name, and we do not collect your name, age, school or year group, so your feedback is not linked to you. We use it to see which workbooks are working and to make them better, and our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in improving our workbooks. We also note whether the feedback came from a scan or a link, and the country it came from (from Cloudflare, and without storing your IP address). If you separately ask us to email you when Volume 1 is ready, that is optional and handled through our email list with your consent; your email is not stored with your feedback. If you tick the box, you can allow us to quote your comment anonymously on our website.
Accounts and payments
We do not currently offer accounts, store any work, or take payments. When we introduce the online platform and paid workbooks, we will update this policy to explain how that works before you use them.
5. Children and young people
Edition is made for people studying iGCSE English, and many of our readers are under 18, so we work to a high standard of privacy by default (aligned with the UK ICO’s Children’s Code and the UAE’s rules for children’s data). We collect only what we need, we do not profile young people, and we do not use anyone’s information for advertising. Our sign-up is intended for people aged 13 or over. If you are under 13, please ask a parent, carer or teacher to sign up for you. If you are a parent, teacher or carer and have any concern about a young person’s information, contact us at hello@edition.education.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Edition, each acting on our instructions:
- MailerLite — manages our email list (privacy policy).
- Cloudflare — hosts the site, protects it from abuse, provides the cookieless analytics, and stores the anonymous workbook feedback (privacy policy).
- Google — provides our own business email (privacy policy).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
7. Where your information is held
Edition is run from the United Arab Emirates, and some of our providers process information in other countries (for example, MailerLite in the European Union and Cloudflare across a global network). Where information moves across borders, our providers use recognised safeguards to keep it protected to the standard the law requires.
8. How long we keep it
- Email list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you, after which we delete your details from the list.
- Security information: the technical information used to protect the site is kept only briefly, by Cloudflare, for that purpose.
- Site measurement: held in grouped form only, so it is not about an individual.
- Workbook feedback: kept while it is useful for improving our workbooks. Because it is anonymous we usually cannot single out one person’s entry, but if you left a comment and would like it removed, contact us and we will remove it.
9. Your rights
You have the right to: access the information we hold about you; ask us to correct it; ask us to delete it; object to or ask us to restrict how we use it; ask for a copy in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it). We do not make any decisions about you by automated means. To exercise any of these, email us at hello@edition.education, and we will respond within 30 days.
10. Cookies
We keep cookies to the essentials, and because we set no tracking cookies you will not see a cookie banner. We explain this in our Cookie policy.
11. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first at hello@edition.education so we can put it right. We will acknowledge your complaint and respond within 30 days. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to your data-protection regulator: in the UAE, the UAE Data Office; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO); or the equivalent authority where you live.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make an important change we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know.
13. Contact us
For anything about your privacy, email hello@edition.education.
